National Nurses Week is celebrated annually from May 6 to May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of modern nursing. This year’s Nurses Week theme is “Nurses: Advocating, Leading, Caring.”

The work at ICC has never been more challenging. Drugs for HIV treatment have been a miracle, enabling our patients to live much longer, more productive lives. However, with those advancements have come new challenges, like preparing our residents to transition from childhood to adulthood while maintaining their health and dealing with the problems that all young adults face.

The nursing staff at ICC is up to the challenge. They provide our residents and their families with the best and most compassionate care. Their impact goes well beyond giving medications and managing and monitoring health: they are also educators, mentors and caregivers. For many of our children, they are “family.”

During this special week, we recognized our nursing staff with a special lunch, dinner and goodies. To further show our appreciation, all of our staff received ICC scrub tops. On your next visit, you’ll no doubt see them worn proudly by our staff.

ICC thanks our nursing staff for advocating, leading and, most of all, caring. All of our lives are improved by your hard work and dedication.
